The curriculum at Yorkmead aims to provide children with exciting and stimulating experiences All children are taught literacy and numeracy on a daily basis. Science, history, geography, music, art, design and technology, RE, PE and information and communication technology are taught throughout the week. Literacy, numeracy and science are called the “core” subjects and children are tested informally in these at the end of KS1 and more formally at the end of KS2. Reading and writing are still the most important studies in the primary school and children who are confident in both and read and write for pleasure will use these skills to make progress in all the other subjects. Mathematics teaching follows the national numeracy strategy guidelines and raising standards in maths is also one of our whole school targets. All co-ordinators regularly monitor the planning and the quality of teaching and learning across the school and give feedback and support. Each year our school improvement plan sets out objectives to improve aspects of the curriculum Download our seven year plan - Link
