Assessments are carried out by the teacher either at the end of every half term, or at the end of a study unit. The results of the assessments are used to inform future planning. Children are assessed regularly as part of the learning process. Assessment helps us to determine what we teach next, what to revise, or whether to move forward on to something new. Children play an important role in their own assessment as soon as possible. Annual tests in reading, writing and mathematics take place at the end of each year and parents are informed of the results through the end of year report. The results of the tests are carefully analysed and pupils’ scores compared to the previous year, to determine progress. Targets are then set for the child to achieve the following year. Throughout pupils’ books, teachers set targets for the pupil to achieve. This ensures that the child is working towards the end of year target and is making consistent progress.
