We have a school policy of systematic assessment and record keeping for all children, so that we can become aware, very quickly, of those for whom ordinary provision is not enough. As soon as we are aware of any problem, you will be contacted and we will maintain personal contact with you throughout the process of providing for special needs. Parents of pupils with special needs will have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress regularly, with the special needs co-ordinator (SENCO) Mrs A Hills. One member of staff has overall responsibility for special educational needs and for the day to day operation of the school policy. They also advise other teachers and liaise with outside agencies. Very careful and accurate records are maintained and there is regular consultation with teachers re planning and the drawing up of individual education programmes (IEPs) There are currently 76 pupils on the special needs code of practice. Teaching assistants in Key Stage 2 work with a year group during literacy and numeracy. At other times their work is focused on children with special educational needs ensuring their needs are met.
