Yorkmead Primary School
| Illness, Medication and First Aid |
|
By law, teachers cannot be responsible for giving medicines. If you have any doubts about your child’s fitness to come to school, please consult your doctor. If medication is required it is better to keep your child at home. In the case of sickness and diarrhoea, we ask you to keep your child at home for at least two days. Inhalers for asthma, clearly labelled with your child’s name, should be brought into school and left with a member of the nursery staff. Please let staff know if your child requires the use of an epi-pen. We give simple first aid for minor accidents which happen at school. We cannot attend to injuries received at home. All nursery staff have attended first aid training. If we cannot contact you and there is an emergency requiring specialist help, your child will be taken to hospital by a member of staff who will stay with your child till you arrive. It is most important that you keep us informed of up to date telephone numbers at home and at work. Because of the risk of allergy, we do not allow peanuts in school and for safety reasons, we do not allow lollipops, sweets, or chocolate to be brought for birthday celebrations. We have a ‘Bump Board' in the entrance hall where we record accidents. If your child’s name is on the board, please see a member of staff so that the incident can be explained in more detail and the accident book signed.
